According to information from National Meteorological Service (SMN)this Wednesday Cold Front number 11 and the polar air mass that drives it will move rapidly over the slope of the Gulf of Mexico. This combination of meteorological phenomena will cause rains that may range from heavy to very heavy in eastern and southeastern Mexico, and showers in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Strong to very strong winds are also expected in states in the northeast, east and southeast of the country; in addition to “North” event of 65 to 75 kilometers per hour (km/h), gusts of 85 to 100 km/h and waves of 3 to 4 meters high on the coasts of Tamaulipas and Veracruz.
The states of Oaxaca, Veracruz and Tabasco foresee the presence of intense occasional rains that could accumulate from 75 to 150 millimeters of water.
Cold front 11 and its passage through Mexico
Below, we present the SMN forecast related to the passage of this cold front through Mexico in the next 72 hours.
Wednesday October 29
Cold front number 11 will quickly travel along the slope of the Gulf of Mexico, generating showers and heavy rains in northeastern, eastern and southeastern states of the Mexican Republic, including the Yucatan Peninsula, with intense occasional rains in Veracruz, Oaxaca and Tabasco.
The “North” event could range from very strong to intense, with high waves on the coasts of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán, the isthmus and the Gulf of Tehuantepec: high waves of 3 to 4 meters high are expected at night in the Gulf of Tehuantepec; and waves of 1.5 to 2.5 meters high on the coasts of Tabasco, Campeche and Yucatán.
For tonight and early Thursday morning, snow or sleet is forecast on the peaks of Pico de Orizaba and Cofre de Perote.

Thursday October 30
The meteorological phenomenon will extend over the Mexican southeast and the Yucatan Peninsula, causing showers and heavy rains in these regions.
The polar air mass associated with the front will maintain the drop in temperatures over the north, center and east of the country; with the presence of frost on the North Table and the Central Table.
The “North” event will continue with wind gusts of 80 to 90 km/h in Oaxaca and Chiapas (isthmus and Gulf of Tehuantepec), as well as wind gusts of 40 to 60 km/h on the coasts of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, Tabasco, Campeche, Yucatán and Quintana Roo, decreasing over the course of the day.
Waves of 3 to 4 meters high are expected in the Gulf of Tehuantepec, 2.5 to 3.5 meters high on the coasts of Veracruz and Tabasco, decreasing over the course of the dayand 2 to 3 meters high on the coasts of Tamaulipas, Campeche and Yucatán.
Friday October 31
Cold front number 11 will extend over the Caribbean Sea, ceasing to affect the country, while the polar air mass associated with the front will gradually modify its thermal characteristics, allowing a gradual rise in daytime temperatures in a large part of the national territory.
