The municipal president of Uruapan, Carlos Alberto Manzo Rodríguez, was murdered this Saturday afternoon during an armed attack in the center of the city, the Mexican Security Cabinet reported through its official networks.

According to the statement, the attack occurred while the mayor was participating in public activities in the first square of Uruapan. In the event, two people were arrested as alleged perpetrators, and one of the attackers lost his life during the response of the security forces.

“As a result of an attack that occurred this afternoon in the center of Uruapan, Michoacán, where municipal president Carlos Manzo unfortunately lost his life, two people involved in the events were arrested and one of the attackers lost his life,” the agency reported on its official X account (@GabSeguridadMX).

After the attack, the authorities deployed an operation in the area to guarantee the safety of the inhabitants. Elements of the Government of Michoacán, together with the Mexican Army, the National Guard and the State Attorney General’s Office, carry out patrols and supervision tasks in the area where the crime occurred.

The Security Cabinet assured that this homicide will not go unpunished and that work is already underway on the investigation to clarify the facts and determine the motivations for the attack.

Carlos Manzo, who served as independent municipal president, had recently participated in cultural and social activities in the municipality, including the inauguration of the Candle Festival, an event with great attendance in the region.
