In Naucalpan the municipal government headed by Isaac Montoya announced the construction of a new Command, Control, Communication and Computing Center (C4) with more than 600 video surveillance cameras to reinforce security; However, specialists warn that the project will be insufficient in the face of the criminal challenge that the town faces.
According to reports from the Secretariat of Security of the State of Mexico and the State Attorney General’s Office, during March of this year at least 59 cameras that operated without institutional control were removed in neighborhoods such as San Rafael Chamapa, El Molinito, La Cañada and San Antonio Zomeyucán. In subsequent operations, the figure rose to 161 computers uninstalled due to their alleged use for criminal activities.
In contrast, the municipal government reported that there are currently around 100 cameras connected to the monitoring system, while the installation of 500 new units with artificial intelligence technology is being prepared. With this, the total goal of 600 surveillance points has not yet been reached.
They are the families themselves Naucalpan who warn that these actions are insufficient
“We live in fear every day,” laments Alberto Mendoza, a merchant from El Molinito, who assures that robberies from passers-by and assaults on businesses continue unchecked despite official announcements.
In San Rafael Chamapa, Doña Leticia affirms that “the cameras are of no use if no one responds on the other side; here the thieves arrive on motorcycles, take cell phones and no one stops them.”
In La Cañada, neighbors point out that the removal of equipment allegedly used by criminal groups only evidenced the vacuum of authority. “It is not enough to promise 600 cameras; we need patrols, a real presence and police officers who know our streets,” claims Luis Fernando. For many, the C4 It is one more announcement, but fear continues to accompany every step they take when leaving the house.
