Within the framework of the “T-MEC Sectoral Diagnosis Forums” that performs the Senate of the Republic to dialogue with businessmen, industrialists and producers about the situation of these sectors in the country and build a solid position regarding the review of the Treaty between Mexico, the United States and Canadain 2026, the business sector called on senators to make a clear diagnosis.
María de Lourdes Medina Ortega, president of the National Chamber of the Processing Industry considered that this sectoral diagnosis represents an exercise that is not only timely, but necessary for Mexico to arrive with a solid, technical and unified position for the revision of the Treaty.

He said that Mexico’s position must be formed “based on those of us who produce, export, innovate and generate jobs in the country, and the Senate With this space, it sends a clear message that our country will build its position with evidence, dialogue and the direct participation of the productive sectors”.

“Mexico and the United Statess share certain industries such as steel and aluminum, and it must be said clearly and openly: today the T-MEC is being violated in the steel and aluminum chapter, and the time has come for the Senate of the Republic establish the parameters for the review, because we have to defend all industries equally,” he said.
Mexico seeks diagnosis for each entity in the Republic
The senator added that Mexico cannot reach the review of the trade agreement in 2026 without a clear diagnosis, so this Chamber of the Congress of the Union It opens dialogue with businessmen, industrialists and producers, but also seeks to have its own diagnosis that responds to the needs of each entity of the Republic.
“These consultations and these procedures that seek a more fair and balanced regional integration, and whose strength will depend on how much we know about you, the industries, the labor sectors, which will undoubtedly make this T-MEC a vigorous document today,” he emphasized.
The president of the Foreign Relations Commission, Alejandro Murat Hinojosaconsidered that it should be objectively considered what does work and what does not work during the T-MEC reviewand put aside any type of subjective vision.
He assured that the neighborly relationship between Mexico and the United States will not change due to interculturality that they share, where 40 million Mexicans live in the American Unionin addition to the fact that the region’s co-production model has allowed the economy of the three countries that make up the trade bloc to be strengthened.
