The Head of Government of the capital, Clara Brugada, justified the increase of 1 peso and 50 cents to the public transportation rate in Mexico City, stating that despite the increase it remains the lowest in the country.
In a conference at the Old Town Hall Palace, the capital’s president stated that the increase in the concessioned public transportation rate increased with at least 10 conditions for improving the service.
“It is important to say that public transportation rates in Mexico City are the cheapest in the country. You can compare them with any state and you will find a big difference,” he mentioned.
Likewise, he stated that the fare increase is registered in the midst of the largest historical investment in mobility in Mexico City and highlighted that public transportation managed by the local government, such as the Metro, Metrobús, Trolleybús and Cablebús, will continue to be subsidized.
“If we just look at the Metro and compare it with other cities in the world, such as Argentina or Colombia, the ticket costs 15 pesos and here in CDMX it still costs 5 pesos. There is a large subsidy from the City,” he mentioned.
Finally, the capital’s president called on citizens to report carriers and routes that charge excessively or do not comply with the agreements established in the rate adjustment.
On this point, the Secretary of Mobility, Ulises García Nieto, recalled that all units are required to have the labels with the new rates visible; Reports of non-compliance may be made through the Locatel line *0311 and official Semovi networks.
