A brutal crash on the Toluca-Zitácuaro highway took the life of a woman and left two passengers injured, on a stretch of road where accidents are repeated

A woman lost her life on Friday in the Toluca–Zitácuaro highwayin a section so noted for its danger that neighbors affirm that the tragedy “was a matter of time.”
The vehicle in which the victim was traveling ended up wedged against the retaining wall between Polvillos and Amanalco, leaving the collapsed car and its occupant without any possibility of being saved. An adult and a minor who were also traveling in the unit were injured.
The impact occurred around noon, but the blow was so violent that residents of the area heard the roar several meters away. “It’s the same story as always: poorly designed curves, broken pavement and zero surveillance. This highway is forgotten by the authorities, and the deaths continue to accumulate,” denounced Roberto Sánchez, a motorist who stopped to help.
Another witness, María González, was even more forceful: “There is no lack of expertise here, there is a lack of maintenance. The signs are blurred, the road is patched and no one supervises anything. The authorities arrive later… when there is already a life lost.”
A few minutes later, Civil Protection and Firefighters units from Valle de Bravo arrived, but they could only confirm the death of the woman. The adult and the minor were stabilized and taken to a hospital. The State Police cordoned off the perimeter for the work of the experts from the Mexican Prosecutor’s Office, who took measurements and gathered evidence, although for the neighbors the official report will be insufficient if the systematic deterioration of the road is not recognized.
For more than two hours, traffic was practically stopped, while the scene revealed the real state of the highway: potholes, wear and tear, minimal signage and a retaining wall that for months has been pointed out by residents as risky. However, no state or federal authority has undertaken remedial work.
