This is not Szczesny’s first penalty kick save for top-class stars, as he previously did so with stars Lionel Messi, the American player for Inter Miami, and Neymar da Silva, the current player for Santos.
When he was a player in Roma, Szczesny (35 years old) prevented Neymar from scoring from the penalty spot, in the Wolves match against Barcelona in the group stage of the Champions League competition in the 2015-2016 season.
This happened on November 24, 2015, in the match that took place at Camp Nou for the fifth round.
That day, Neymar stepped forward to take a penalty kick, which he shot with his right foot, but Szczesny blocked it brilliantly, but the ball bounced to the Brazilian Adriano, who returned it to the net.
On the international level, Szczesny was able to save a penalty kick taken by Messi during the match between Argentina and Poland in the group stage of the 2022 World Cup finals, which was held in the State of Qatar.
The two teams met on November 30, 2022, at Stadium 974, in the third and final round for Group C.
At that time, Messi sent the ball towards the left side, and Szczesny stretched out and was able to block it brilliantly, so the score remained at a goalless draw.

What is striking is that all of these saves came in matches that Szczesny’s teams lost, and were as follows:
- Barcelona 6-1 Roma.
- Poland 0-2 Argentina.
- Real Madrid 2-1 Barcelona.
It is noteworthy that Szczesny saved 21 penalty kicks during his career, according to the Spanish newspaper “AS”.
