The app now automatically generates chapters for podcast episodes, making navigation much easier. With the introduction of iOS 26.2, Apple has added three major innovations to its Podcasts app. These include automatic chapter generation, improved podcast discovery through mentions, and a new feature for displaying links from episodes. These updates aim to improve the user experience and make it easier to interact with podcasts.
Automatic chapter generation is one of the most notable changes. Previously, podcast producers had to create chapters manually, which could be time-consuming. With the new feature, chapters are automatically created and marked as ‘Automatically created’. This applies to English-language episodes longer than ten minutes. However, producers have the option to edit these chapters or disable the feature in Apple Podcasts Connect.
Another important update concerns podcast discovery. With iOS 26.2, users can access and follow mentioned podcasts directly in the player and transcripts. This makes it easier for listeners to discover new content without having to search for links. This feature is currently in limited beta and is only available for English-language shows for now.
Additionally, Apple introduced the ‘From This Episode’ feature, which allows users to quickly access links shared in an episode. These links can lead to Apple Music, Apple News, Apple Podcasts, Apple TV and more. If a timestamp is provided with the link in the show notes or via the RSS feed, it will appear in the transcription and player. This is intended to make it easier to interact with the content while listening.
These innovations demonstrate Apple’s commitment to continually improving the user experience in the Podcasts app. While the automatic chapters and mentions feature make discovery and navigation easier, the ‘From This Episode’ feature offers seamless integration of additional content.
