Retired Spanish referee Iturralde Gonzalez and the Arquivo Far account on the X platform agreed with the decision of referee De Burgos.

Iturralde analyzed the shot on the Spanish “Cadena Ser” network, saying, “There is actually contact from the defender on Rodrigo’s right leg, and here the difficulty of judging the shot begins.”

He added, asking, “Is that enough to bring down Rodrigo? Does it amount to a penalty kick?” Then he answered, “For me, it is not enough to award a penalty kick.”

Iturralde continued his explanation of the situation, “In fact, there is contact, and whoever says that it is enough to bring down the player is right. It is a gray matter and there is no absolute truth in it.”

Regarding the assistant referee’s lack of intervention in the shot, Iturralde believes that the new instructions of the technical committee for referees had a role in that.

He said, “The mouse was interfering more than before, and perhaps it would have intervened in such a shot. This season, there is a desire to reduce the intervention of video assistants, and I do not agree with that. This technology must intervene when it is necessary.”

For its part, the Arquivo Far account analyzed the same shot by saying, “There is a slight touch from full-back Joel Roca on Rodrigo inside the penalty area, but it is a very minor contact and cannot in any way be considered a reason for awarding a penalty kick.”

De Burgos had canceled a goal for Real Madrid scored by French star Kylian Mbappe, after returning to the video assistant technology due to a handball on the Royal Club striker before he put the ball into the net.

Iturralde and Arquivo Var again agreed on the correctness of the decision. The first said, “This is an easy shot. The goal resulting from a direct hand touch does not require explanation or research into whether the touch was intentional or not.”

He added, “Every handball immediately followed by a goal from the same player must be cancelled.”

As for Arquivo Var, he explained the situation by saying, “Mbappé touched the ball with his hand before he shot it with the tip of his foot and scored the goal. It was a handball.”

He concluded, “When the violation is committed by the same player who scores the goal, it is always counted as a handball.”

The former referee and the famous Spanish account did not comment on the penalty kick that the referee awarded to Real Madrid in the 65th minute after Vinicius was obstructed inside the Girona penalty area and Mbappe scored the equalizer, indicating its validity after the obstruction appeared clear from the defender of the Brazilian player.

With this result, Real Madrid fell to second place in the standings with 33 points, one point behind its rival Barcelona, ​​the leaders, while Girona’s score rose to 12 points, which placed it in 18th place.
