Air traffic at Zaventem airport in Brussels is suspended this Tuesday (4 November) at night due to the sighting of a drone.
The drone was detected around 8pm local time (7pm in Lisbon).
Air operations have been suspended as a precaution, according to the air traffic authority. Skeyes.
Several planes that were supposed to land in Zaventem are waiting in mid-air.
“We are investigating the matter,” said a spokesperson for Brussels airport, quoted by the Belgian newspaper DH.
At the same time, citizens reported to the Belgian police the presence of six drones near the Kleine-Brogel military air base, at around 7pm local time (6pm in Lisbon). Authorities immediately went to the scene and managed to observe two of the drones.
The information was confirmed by Peer’s mayor, Steven Mathei. “It is still not clear, as Defense itself was unable to detect the drones. The police helicopter was called in to try to track the devices,” he said.
Over the weekend, three drone sightings were reported over Kleine-Brogel Air Base, where US nuclear weapons are stored and F-16 fighter jets are parked.
