José Luis Ábalos has hired the former prosecutor of the National Court as a lawyer Carlos Bautista. After interviewing several lawyers in the last few hours, he has chosen the person who was the representative of the Public Prosecutor’s Office for almost two decades. It is worth remembering that the former Minister of Transport has broken up with his until now lawyer, Jose Aníbalalleging “irreconcilable differences” with him and requested a court-appointed lawyer to appear before the Supreme Court yesterday.

Bautista is an expert in Economic Criminal Law and as the law firm where he works has already announced, Chabaneix Abogados“intervened in procedures of special relevance in matters of judicial cooperation, economic crime and extraditions, providing solid technical experience in the management of complex cases.”

This lawyer also has extensive experience in penitentiary law and has acted as a prosecutor since 2006 in numerous economic criminal law cases. He served for 32 years as a prosecutor and almost 20 years in the National Court.

Bautista moved to the private sector in 2024. During his time at the National Court he was the prosecutor in charge of the Pheasant case -in which the financing apparatus of the terrorist group ETA was condemned- and participated in the trial for the attacks of March 11, 2004 in Madrid. He also intervened in cases such as the case Áskatasuna Managers or in the Residents case of the Globalia Group in which a legal entity was convicted for the first time exclusively and without simultaneous accusation against a natural person for the crime of subsidy fraud.
