A series of raids on southern and eastern Lebanon, and Aoun calls for an end to the Israeli attacks news

Today, Monday, Israeli warplanes and drones launched a series of violent raids on several mountainous areas in southern and eastern Lebanon, in a new escalation that is considered one of the largest since the ceasefire agreement took effect in November 2024.

Al Jazeera’s correspondent reported that Israeli warplanes targeted the areas of Al-Jarmak, Al-Rayhan, Al-Jabour, Jabal Al-Rafi’, Al-Qatrani, Barghez and Al-Mahmudiyah in southern Lebanon. Israeli aircraft also launched raids on the outskirts of the town of Nabi Sheet and Mahallat Al-Shaara near the town of Jinta, and on an open mountainous area in the vicinity of the town on the Lebanese-Syrian border in the Bekaa in eastern Lebanon.

An Israeli drone also targeted a small truck in the city of Hermel in Baalbek Governorate, eastern Lebanon, without recording any casualties, while other drones flew densely in the airspace of villages northeast of Tyre, and targeted open land in the Al-Duhur area outside the town of Al-Humairi.

The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that one person was martyred this Monday morning in an Israeli raid that targeted a car on the coastal road between the towns of Sarafand and Al-Bisariya in the Sidon district in the south of the country. A Lebanese security source told Al-Jazeera that the Israeli march targeted the car with three missiles.

The Ministry also reported that two other people were martyred in two raids on the towns of Al-Sawana and Houmin Al-Fawqa during the past 24 hours, while an Israeli force blew up 3 houses in the town of Hula in the Marjayoun district, belonging to brothers from the Shehimi family, in the early hours after midnight, according to the National News Agency.

According to the agency, Israeli drones flew intensely at low altitude over villages and towns northeast of Tyre, especially along the banks of the Litani River from Al-Qasimiya to Tir Falsiyeh.

These developments come in light of Israel’s continued violation of the cessation of hostilities agreement, as its forces still occupy 5 border points in southern Lebanon, and continue their military operations on an almost daily basis, resulting in the killing and wounding of hundreds of Lebanese and widespread destruction of infrastructure.

Last Thursday, the Israeli army warned Lebanese citizens in several villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate, in the widest warning since the ceasefire agreement took effect a year ago.

Targeting Hezbollah

For its part, the Israeli occupation army announced that it had eliminated 3 Hezbollah members in 3 different locations in southern Lebanon.

He said in a statement that one of those sites that he targeted – without specifying it – was used to launch rocket shells, and that “Hezbollah activities were observed inside it in recent months.” He also claimed that he “targeted combat means directed towards Israeli territory inside the site.”

He added that he targeted “several enemy infrastructure” in the Nabatieh region, and in the Bekaa region he targeted “infrastructure within a site for the production and storage of strategic combat means,” according to his claim.

There was no immediate statement from Hezbollah on the Israeli allegations.

Stop the attacks

For his part, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said, during a press conference with his Bulgarian counterpart, Rumen Radev, in Sofia, that “the Lebanese army’s mission is crucial, and it alone, without a partner, must extend the state’s authority over its entire territory.”

Aoun called for an end to the Israeli attacks, stressing that “the negotiating path is the only way to achieve the highest interest of Lebanon.”

The Lebanese President left Lebanon earlier Monday morning on an official visit to Bulgaria, at the invitation of Radev, where he will have meetings with a number of Bulgarian officials.
