On Thursday, France, Germany, Italy and Britain strongly condemned the significant increase in Israeli settler violence against Palestinian civilians, and called on Israel to protect the residents of the West Bank, which it has occupied since 1967.

This came in a statement issued by the four countries, amid Israel’s intensification of its military operations in the West Bank and its continued bombing of the Gaza Strip.

The foreign ministers of the four countries said in the statement, “We – France, Germany, Italy and Britain – strongly condemn the horrific escalation of violence by settlers against Palestinian civilians, and call for stability in the West Bank.”

The foreign ministers of the four countries stressed that “these attacks must stop. They sow terror among civilians and undermine the efforts currently being made to bring peace and ensure permanent security for the State of Israel itself.”

The ministers also welcomed US President Donald Trump’s “clear opposition” to annexing the West Bank. They reaffirmed their opposition “to any form of annexation, whether partial, total or de facto, as well as to settlement measures that violate international law.”

200 operations

This statement coincides with the occupation army carrying out 200 raids, arrests, searches and detention operations in a number of areas of the occupied West Bank.

According to Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Palestine, Muhammad Al-Atrash, these operations took place in Tubas, Al-Fara’a camp, and the towns of Tammoun, Tayasir, and Aqaba in the northern West Bank, and some of their homes were turned into military barracks after their residents were expelled from them.

Al-Atrash quoted a family from the city of Tubas, who were expelled by the occupation forces twice during the past two days, that the targeted homes mostly belong to prisoners or martyrs, while the occupation claims that it is targeting places that were the starting point for operations carried out by resistance fighters.

The Palestinians believe that what is happening in these areas is nothing but an attempt to take revenge on these prisoners and martyrs without a security need, especially since it included the arrest of liberated prisoners, as Al Jazeera’s correspondent says.

The occupation is currently besieging the city of Tubas – inhabited by 70,000 Palestinians – and continues to dismember it with checkpoints and security patrols deployed there, which arrest everyone who does not adhere to the complete curfew imposed two days ago, including journalists.
