The government media office in Gaza confirmed that the Israeli war of annihilation on the Strip caused the displacement of about two million Palestinians and the displacement of more than 288 thousand families, amid extremely harsh humanitarian conditions.
Director of the Government Media Office, Ismail Al-Thawabta, explained to Al-Jazeera that the deficit in providing shelter reached 96%, and pointed out that 1.5 million people lost their homes and need urgent shelter.
Al-Thawabta estimated the losses of the housing sector at more than $28 billion, stressing that the percentage of complete destruction in Gaza reached 90%.
The media office called on US President Donald Trump to put pressure on the concerned parties to urgently insert 300,000 tents before the onset of winter, to provide temporary shelter for the displaced who are “living on the ground without any necessities for life,” in light of the continuation of what it described as “genocide in various forms.”
In a related context, the head of the emergency committee in the municipality of Nuseirat in the central sector, Muhammad Al-Salhi, told Al Jazeera that hundreds of thousands of displaced people were forced to reside in unsafe areas that lack the minimum necessities of life, as some of them set up tents on the sidewalks and roads, while others were crowded into narrow spaces that could not accommodate their numbers.
The first emergency coordinator at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Hamish Young, said that the quality of aid needed by the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip is no less important than its quantity.
He added that the Palestinians in Gaza need tents, tarpaulins (plastic sheets), and clean drinking water, stressing the necessity of allowing all basic materials to enter without restrictions to meet the increasing humanitarian needs.
Israel has completely closed the Gaza Strip crossings since the second of last March, preventing the entry of food, medicine, and all life necessities, while thousands of trucks are accumulating on the Egyptian side of the Rafah land crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt, awaiting permission to enter, but Israel still refuses to open the crossing and links this to the return of the bodies of the remaining Israeli prisoners.
With American support, Israel has committed genocide since October 8, 2023, resulting in the martyrdom of 68,116 Palestinians, as well as 170,200 wounded – most of them children and women – in addition to the destruction of about 90% of civilian infrastructure.
