The 260 Swedish companies present in Portugal contributed 4.2 billion euros to the Portuguese economy in the last five years, according to the Swedish Embassy in Portugal.

In the same period, these companies invested more than 1.1 billion euros in the country, according to data collected by the Portuguese-Swedish Chamber of Commerce, the Swedish Embassy in Portugal and Business Sweden, which highlights the scale of the Swedish corporate presence.

Companies with Swedish capital or identity employed 18,133 people in 2024 and generated an aggregate turnover of 13.1 billion euros during the aforementioned five-year period.

“Sweden and Portugal share a strong conviction in free trade and a joint commitment to global security, as we celebrate milestones in our EU membership (30 and 40 years, respectively), our partnership is increasingly focused on the future: innovation, sustainability and further European integration”, reads a statement from the diplomatic representation.

The ambassador, Elisabeth Eklund, states that the commercial relationship reflects the aforementioned alignment, with exports of Portuguese goods to Sweden growing 113% in the last five years.

Companies such as Securitas (4,470 workers), IKEA (3,200), IKEA Industry (1,752), Diaverum (1,618) and Boliden Somincor (1,324) stand out as the largest employers, reinforcing the importance of the Swedish corporate presence for the national job market.
