Mainland Portugal recorded 198 incidents between 00:00 and 08:00 this Saturday, November 15, due to bad weather, especially in the Porto metropolitan area, with the number of incidents decreasing due to the gradual improvement in the weather.
Commander Rui Oliveira, from the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), told Lusa that, of the total number of incidents, the vast majority, 159, were related to flooding and 17 to road cleaning.
There were also eight falls from structures, seven mass movements, five falls from trees and two land rescues.
There were 159 vehicles on the ground with 411 operational, added the same source.
By geographic distribution, the most affected region was the north, with 132 occurrences, followed by the center, with 58, Lisbon and Vale do Tejo, with six, and the Algarve, with two.
Specifically in the north, the metropolitan area of Porto was the one that suffered the greatest impact, with 97 incidents recorded, followed by Aveiro, with 50.
Rui Oliveira highlighted that the trend is for occurrences to continue to decrease, due to the removal of the Cláudia depression and the improvement in the weather.
The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) placed four districts under orange warning on this day, still due to heavy rain: Braga, Faro, Setúbal and Beja are on alert due to persistent rain, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms.
The districts of Viana do Castelo, Porto, Viseu, Aveiro, Coimbra, Portalegre, Santarém and Lisbon are under yellow warning, as well as the south coast and mountainous regions of Madeira Island, due to the forecast of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
The Évora district is also under yellow warning, but because of the wind, which will be strong, with gusts that can reach 80 km per hour.
The entire western and southern coast of the country is also under yellow warning, due to maritime unrest.
