US President Donald Trump said on Saturday that two “drug smugglers” who survived the US raid on a submarine carrying drugs are scheduled to be sent to Ecuador and Colombia.

Trump wrote, in a post on his Truth Social platform, “I had the great honor to destroy a huge submarine loaded with drugs and heading towards the United States through a route known for drug smuggling.”

Trump added that US intelligence confirmed that this ship was loaded with fentanyl and other drugs.

Reuters quoted four American officials and an informed source today as saying that the Trump administration intends to send two survivors of an attack that occurred on Thursday in the Caribbean to another country instead of seeking to detain them for a long period.

The source, who refused to reveal his identity, added that the survivors are scheduled to be sent to Colombia and Ecuador.

The US military carried out a helicopter rescue operation last Thursday in search of survivors after an attack on a semi-submersible ship suspected of smuggling drugs.

Sources told Reuters yesterday that the raid resulted in the killing of two other crew members who were on board the ship.

The two survivors were transferred to a US Navy ship in the Caribbean, where they remained until at least Friday evening. It was not clear whether they had been removed from the ship until this morning.
