In the world of military technology, a Turkish startup called Hyperever recently made a splash by showcasing its advanced robot dog Proteo at a NATO event in Istanbul. This event, part of the NATO Innovation Continuum 2025, provided a platform for demonstrating breakthrough technologies being developed within the Alliance. Hyperever, a young company based in Istanbul Technical University’s ARI Technopark, specializes in developing robots capable of completing complex tasks in challenging environments.
The robot dog Proteo was designed to perform a variety of military tasks, including surveillance missions, logistical support and explosive device defusal. With a load capacity of 35 kilograms and an operating time of 4 to 6 hours, Proteo can transport heavy loads over difficult terrain. Thanks to advanced artificial intelligence and GNSS support, the robot can be controlled both autonomously and semi-autonomously or manually.
Çayan Baykal, the founder and CEO of Hyperever, emphasized the importance of participating in the NATO event and collaborating with various companies. He explained that the robot is capable of transmitting real-time images and data from operational locations to the command center, which can significantly improve coastal security against hostile elements. Baykal highlighted that the robot was specifically designed for use in urban areas and during operations in caves and tunnels.
Hyperever’s future plans include the development of humanoid robots based on the knowledge and experience gained during the development of Proteo. Baykal explained that the robot’s robustness under extreme conditions is a key advantage that sets it apart from comparable systems. In addition to military applications, the company also sees potential in the civil security sector, where the robot could carry out autonomous patrols.
